The World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA’s) Anti-Doping Administration & Management System [ADAMS] Testing Working Group (ATWG) met virtually on 6 and 7 November 2024 and focused its discussions on the following topics:

a) An update on the progress of the 2024 ADAMS Development Roadmap and the priorities for 2025, including the plan to update the sample management module that includes long-term storage and quick turnaround analysis request functionalities (initially launched on 23 April 2024). The update will also give Anti-Doping Organizations (ADOs) the possibility to ‘bulk’ upload samples in long-term storage.

b) The plan to further develop WADA’s Application Programming Interface (API), which enables ADOs to connect their own entry systems to ADAMS to speed up the process of entering Doping Control Forms. The plan also entails updating the existing pricing structure.

c) The issue of duplicate profiles in ADAMS, which can arise if an ADAMS user provides incorrect athlete data or ignores the existing warning system, or if WADA is requested to upload in ADAMS prior an International Event an athlete list that includes incorrect athlete data. There were two updates related to this issue:

  • During the lead up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, multiple duplicate athlete profiles were created in ADAMS. The ATWG recommends that before a Major Event, the athlete list should be forwarded to the relevant International Federations for confirmation of athlete data prior to uploading the list to ADAMS.
  • In September, there was an automatic merge of more than 2,500 duplicate athlete profiles in ADAMS. Each of these profiles had a 100% match with an existing ADAMS profile. The ADAMS team has created an article in the ADAMS Help Center to assist ADOs on how to avoid duplicating athlete profiles. ADOs are encouraged to contact the ADAMS team via its support line to request merging of athlete profiles.

d) The ATWG’s development of several short ADAMS-related educational videos for ADOs. The first five videos are listed below:

These videos are also available in the ADAMS Help Center. The ATWG plans to create more videos like this in 2025. ADOs are encouraged to forward any suggestions on relevant topics of interest to atwg@wada-ama.org.

WADA also provided a summary of stakeholder feedback regarding proposed changes to the first draft of the 2027 IST that were received as part of 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards Update Process. The ATWG discussed the impact of these changes on ADAMS and its ecosystems.

Finally, a reminder that ADOs requiring assistance with any aspect of using ADAMS and/or its ecosystems are kindly requested to contact the ADAMS team by submitting a request in the ADAMS Help Center. The former ADAMS email address is no longer monitored by the ADAMS team.

Should you have any questions regarding the work of the ATWG, we invite you to contact atwg@wada-ama.org.
