WADA launches Second Drafting Phase of 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards Update Process

Agency publishes stakeholder feedback received during Stakeholder Consultation Phase

Today, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) launches the Second Drafting Phase of the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code & International Standards Update Process (2027 Code & IS Update Process). As part of this phase, we are publishing stakeholder feedback regarding the first drafts of the 2027 Code and International Standards that were published during the Stakeholder Consultation Phase initiated in May 2024. This feedback will underpin the upcoming work of the drafting teams.

2027 Code & IS Update Process

The 2027 Code & IS Update Process is part of WADA’s commitment to facilitate periodic collaborative review processes to ensure the documents remain fit for purpose. The two-year, multi-phase update process is summarized in the 2027 Code & IS Update Process – Timelines & Key Phases document.

2027 Code & IS Update Drafting Team Working Groups

Nine different drafting teams—one for the Code and each International Standard—have been formally constituted as Working Groups and are composed of internal members from WADA management and external experts from various Code Signatories and stakeholder organizations. For more information regarding the 2027 Code & IS Update Process or the Drafting Team Working Groups, we invite you to refer to the Code Review webpage

Stakeholder Feedback on First Drafts of the Code and International Standards

During the Stakeholder Consultation Phase, stakeholders were invited to provide feedback on the first drafts of the 2027 Code and International Standards. We received more than 1,800 comments1 from stakeholders, all of which can be found here:

As previously indicated, while the drafting teams carefully consider and review all comments, it cannot be guaranteed that they will address each individual stakeholder comment or that a given suggestion will be included in amended and updated versions of the Code and International Standards.

Please note that:

  • the first drafts of the 2027 Code and International Standards are only available in English; and
  • a revised version of the International Standard for Code Compliance by Signatories (ISCCS) entered into effect on 1 April 2024 and was therefore not the subject of revision during this First Drafting Phase or comments during the Stakeholder Consultation Phase. The proposed draft of the 2027 ISCCS will be available for review as part of the next Stakeholder Consultation Phase in 2025.
