WADA becomes official partner of the European Week of Sport 2021

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has become an official partner of the European Commission’s European Week of Sport 2021, which runs from 23-30 September 2021. The European Week of Sport promotes sport and physical activity across Europe, regardless of age, social background or fitness level.

Today, the European Week of Sport 2021 kicked off in Bled, Slovenia with a ‘Healthy Lifestyle 4 All’ event hosted by the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. WADA President Witold Banka was on hand – alongside other featured speakers and delegates from the world of politics and sport – to pledge the Agency’s support to the two-year campaign that showcases the European Commission’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle across generations and social groups.

WADA President Witold Bańka said: “WADA is proud to be a partner of the European Week of Sport 2021 and to pledge our commitment to the Healthy Lifestyle 4 All’ campaign. In keeping with WADA’s mission for doping-free sport, WADA is committed to protecting the health of athletes from around the world. Health is at the core of our mission and among the key criteria for determining whether or not a substance or method is prohibited under the Global Anti-Doping Program. We encourage everyone to be active and to ‘Play True’ this week and always.

“WADA will support the ‘Healthy Lifestyle 4 All’ campaign by developing new digital education programs promoting healthy eating, active participation in sport, ethical sporting behavior for positive mental well-being, and the values of clean sport. These programs will be launched by July 2022 and be hosted on the Agency’s Anti-Doping Education and Learning Platform (ADEL). They will be made available free of charge and will be designed specifically for youth athletes of 12 to 16 years of age who are engaged regularly in competitive sport, as well as recreational athletes and other participants of all ages, and community and club coaches of youth and recreational athletes. We believe that these programs align very well with the campaign by promoting healthy lifestyles across generations, around the globe.”
