WADA announces launch of new application process for scientific research grants
Informational webinar to be held 22 November 2023
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to announce that the Agency will launch a new application process for the funding of scientific research in December 2023.
Since 2001, WADA has been at the forefront of funding scientific research, contributing to major advances in the fight against doping in sports. The Annual Call for Proposals has been the main program through which researchers have been able to submit grant applications, operating with a single deadline for each year. This year, WADA saw the need to overhaul the system to address issues of application length and efficiency and to make the process more compatible with the realities of a fast-evolving field.
To promote a more dynamic and attractive research program, WADA will be launching a new application process in December 2023 which will replace the existing Annual Call. Under this new system, researchers will be welcome to submit Expressions of Interest (EOIs) at any time during the year.
EOIs will be grouped into three cycles per year before entering an independent and external review process, followed by a decision inviting selected projects to be submitted as full applications that will be similarly reviewed by independent experts and the WADA Health, Medical and Research Committee. This will significantly decrease the waiting time between the initial submission and the reception of a decision notice by research teams.

Details and timelines of the new call system will be presented in a webinar on 22 November at 10:00 EST. Register here.
Kindly note that a transition period will be necessary to successfully implement such an impactful change and for potential adjustments to be made throughout the process. Please be assured that all efforts are being made to make this transition positive for all parties involved.
