Statement from WADA President on Dr Anthony Galea Case

Following numerous requests for comment, WADA issued the following statement from its President John Fahey in relation to the criminal complaint filed in the United States against Dr Anthony Galea:

“While WADA will not comment on an ongoing federal investigation, we commend the United States law enforcement authorities for their actions in investigating the conduct of those who work closely with athletes.

“Members of athletes’ entourage – including coaches, trainers, medical doctors, scientists, sports administrators and others – have a professional and moral responsibility to the athletes under their charge.

“It is therefore crucial that regulations for professional malpractice be enforced and that governments implement laws that allow effective action to ensure proper conduct of those who advise and assist athletes.”
