Beckie Scott appointed WADA Athlete Committee Chair

Two-time Olympic medalist Beckie Scott has been appointed Chair of the WADA Athlete Committee, taking over the position from Viacheslav Fetisov.

Scott, a former cross-country skier from Alberta, Canada, has been a long-standing supporter of doping-free sport and became a member of WADA’s Athlete Committee in 2008. The 39-year-old is one of the athlete community’s most vocal anti-doping supporters, and was rewarded for her efforts by being appointed to the WADA Foundation Board in 2006 followed by WADA’s policy-making body, the Executive Committee, in 2012.

“I am delighted to have been appointed as WADA’s new Athlete Committee Chair, and I will do all I can to continue building and strengthening the role of the Committee within WADA’s mission of clean sport,” said Scott.

“I have enjoyed being a part of the Athlete Committee, as it has provided me with a platform to represent the views of clean athletes from all sports in every part of the world. This is a role I will take huge pride in, and I look forward to the first Committee meeting in Lausanne in March.”

Scott’s three-year term as Chair of the WADA Athlete Committee began on January 1, 2014.
