WADA releases updated Guidelines for Privacy to complement the 2021 ISPPPI

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to publish updated Guidelines for Privacy to support Anti-Doping Organizations (ADOs) in their implementation of the 2021 International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information (ISPPPI), which comes into force on 1 January 2021.

The Guidelines for Privacy have been significantly enhanced with the support and input of stakeholders in the anti-doping community. The Guidelines aim to assist ADOs as they build and implement privacy programs to enhance athlete trust by ensuring personal information is protected and handled respectfully at each step of the anti-doping process.  

The Guidelines are accompanied by a suite of operational templates in excel format to help ADOs implement key ISPPPI requirements, namely a Record of Processing, a Risk Assessment Matrix, a Security Breach Reporting Form, a Security Breach Log, and an ADO Disclosure Request Form. Additional privacy notice templates will be released shortly. While the Guidelines and operational templates are initially being published in English, the official French versions will be published in the coming weeks.

The new Guidelines for Privacy can be found on WADA’s website and on its Anti-Doping eLearning Platform (ADeL), as part of the Code Implementation Support Program (CISP), which provides additional resources to support the implementation of the ISPPPI; as well as, the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code (Code) and other International Standards that enter into force on 1 January 2021.

WADA Guidelines provide Code Signatories with recommended practices for several aspects of anti-doping programs. While these guidelines are not mandatory, they offer technical guidance to ADOs in the implementation of their anti-doping programs. As with all guidelines under the World Anti-Doping Program, these documents are subject to ongoing review.
