Partnership to Effective Testing project in Egypt and the Czech Republic

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to highlight the successful implementation of its Partnership to Effective Testing project with the Egyptian National Anti-Doping Organization (EGY-NADO) and the Czech Anti-Doping Committee (CADC).

The Partnership to Effective Testing project, which is an initiative under WADA’s Engagement and Development Impact Area, is a focused assessment of an Anti-Doping Organization’s (ADO) testing program to identify areas for improvement and provide hands-on support in strengthening compliant and effective programs. It is built on a collaborative one-on-one program development approach that provides tailored guidance to ADOs when enhancements to its testing program are necessary, specifically by building capacity and honing the skills of testing administrators.

The phases carried out in Egypt and the Czech Republic took place over three days and were led by staff from WADA’s African regional office; the European regional office; and the Testing department.

Ilaria Baudo, WADA Senior Manager, Testing, said: “WADA is pleased to see the tangible impact the Partnership to Effective Testing project has had this year. The project’s main purpose is to reduce the number of testing corrective actions by taking a collaborative, proactive approach with Anti-Doping Organizations; and working directly with them to ensure their testing programs are compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code and the International Standard for Testing and Investigations.

“Between 2020 and 2025, data gathered through the Code Compliance Questionnaire and Compliance audits illustrate that Testing represents nearly 34% of the corrective actions for Tier 1 and 2 National Anti-Doping Organizations1. It highlights the importance of aligning WADA’s Testing, Compliance and development efforts through a data-driven approach, which allows us to take proactive steps before Signatories put themselves at risk of non-conformities.”

CEO of EGY-NADO, Iman Gomaa, said: “The Egyptian NADO is appreciative of the opportunity to engage with WADA as part of the Partnership to Effective Testing project. Testing is an integral part of a robust anti-doping program, and EGY-NADO’s participation has allowed us to refine and enhance our testing procedures as necessary to ensure we have a robust and comprehensive anti-doping program that inspires confidence among our athletes and those from around the world. The knowledge, capacity and experience gained through our participation in this project will also be put to good use in EGY-NADO’s efforts to support other NADOs in the Africa region.”

To date, the Partnership to Effective Testing has focused on Tier 1 and 2 NADOs who are identified through a detailed assessment of testing and compliance data. The implementation of the project in Egypt and the Czech Republic will be followed by phases in two more countries before the end of 2025.
