WADA hosts results management workshop for Gulf Cooperation Council States

Results Management Workshop in Kuwait

This week, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) partnered with the Kuwait Anti-Doping Agency (Kuwait NADO) for a results management workshop in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

The three-day workshop, which concluded today, was hosted by the Kuwait NADO in collaboration with WADA and brought together results management personnel from the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council to enhance the quality of results management capabilities development across the region.

The workshop was attended by results management staff (including hearing panel members) from Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman. The Kuwait NADO also invited representatives from Jordan to join.

There has been tangible growth among the individual Gulf State National Anti-Doping Organizations that, with WADA’s support, have spent the past several years focusing on developing their anti-doping programs. Accomplishments of the past few years include building dedicated results management departments and establishing first instance hearing panel and appeal bodies.

WADA Director General, Olivier Niggli, said: “We are pleased to have had the opportunity to convene representatives from the Gulf Cooperation Council member states and to connect with results management personnel from the various National Anti-Doping Organizations. Results management is an integral aspect of the anti-doping program. Developing and enhancing the quality of results management capabilities across the region is a priority for us, and this workshop will play an important role in achieving that.

“This is another example of WADA prioritizing the importance of collaboration, information-sharing and developing technical expertise internationally. I would like to thank President Dr. Bader Khalid Al Mutairi and General Director Hanaa Al Buti, along with their entire team from the Kuwait NADO, for their efforts in putting this workshop together.”

It focused on a number of results management topics, including:

  • Types of anti-doping rule violations (ADRVs), departure cases and fundamental breaches;

  • Conducting effective results management;

  • Applicable sanctions and Court of Arbitration for Sport awards;

  • Building case files and determining sanctions; and

  • Communicating and sharing final decisions.

General Director of the Kuwait NADO, Hanaa Al Buti, said: “This week’s results management workshop represents another important step in the development of anti-doping programs throughout the region. The insightful and educational discussions that took place this week will translate to stronger results management capabilities among the Gulf Cooperation Council member states. We are appreciative of WADA’s support in organizing this workshop, and we look forward to continued collaboration in the future.”
